Have you ever stopped to think about how damaging it can be to rinse liquid wastes down the drain? After all, once it’s down the drain, you’ll never have to think about it again, will you?

You can prevent a lot of problems with your home's plumbing if you know what not to rinse down the pipes.

Truth be told, you can do a lot of harm by rinsing liquid wastes down the kitchen and bathroom sink, shower drains, and by flushing them down the toilet. According to Yahoo! Green, rinsing items like fats and oils down the kitchen drain can clog your pipes and are terrible for your sewage system. This can cause a lot of damage to your system, as well as create health hazards, damage to your home interiors, and pose a threat to the environment.

If you want to avoid ruining your plumbing system, pipes, drains, and even your garbage disposal system, you should never wash the following items down your drains:

  • Fats, oils, and grease from cars, lawnmowers, and kitchen wastes.
  • Coffee grinds.
  • Egg shells.
  • Large chunks of garbage.
  • Nail polish or nail polish remover.

Taking the time to properly dispose of items such as the ones listed above can help you prevent a multitude of problems in the future. You can check out Yahoo! Green for additional tips and information to help keep your sinks, toilets, and drains in tip-top shape.
